On Wednesday 7 November 2018, the ABQ Public School Board (APS) will meet at 5:00 P.M. to debate a proposed
19.4% increase in property taxes for homeowners and others in the APS School District. If passed on Wednesday, the tax hike will be voted on in a mail-in election on February 5, 2019.
Elections matter. The APS Board consists of seven (7) members, six (6) of which are of the tax and spend variety. There is one (1) lone conservative voice. If you simply can’t make it to the meeting, you can contact the Board at the link above.
The current school tax rate is 10.45 Mills. The proposed tax rate is 12.45 Mills. Check your county tax bill which you have just received.
The bottom line is- we need people/property owners to be out in full protest by signing up to speak out against this outrageous proposal. Logistical details are as follows:
Where: APS Board Education Offices
6400 Uptown Blvd, NE
ABQ, NM 87110
When: Wednesday 7 Nov 2018
Time: Meeting Starts at 5:00 P.M.
Sign up to speak: Starts at 4:30 P.M. in the lobby. Depending on the number of people signed up to speak, speakers will have 2-3 minutes to speak to the Board.
We recommend you arrive at 4:00 P.M. or earlier. We need to have property owners well represented as the normal attendees for the most part are the free everything types.
You can sign up to speak ahead of time by emailing boarded@aps.edu. They will send you a form to fill out. I have a copy of the form that I can email to anyone interested.
Thank you!
Unable to make plans to attend as I was just alerted last-minute today. I absolutely do not agree with this proposed tax increase and am not aware that any public notice was issued. I consider this an underhanded tactic by APS School Board.
I am against such an astonishing rate hike. Please vote against this bill. I am a retired homeowner on a fixed income and cannot afford to subsidize those who are not contributing
Not sure that the answer to poor education is more taxes. I can not believe that school management can not be improved with innovation and that good education can not be delivered within a reasonable budget. Children deserve the a good education and taxpayers deserve good service for the taxes they have to pay from the hard work of earning a living daily.
