According to a new report from Americans for Tax Reform which looks at the size and growth of state governments over the past five years, New Mexico not only has the 2nd-biggest government among US states, but New Mexico government grew the 2nd-fastest among US states (as a percent of GDP over the past five years).
The report uses data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis and National Association of State Budget officers.
While the big-spenders will never give up their dreams of continued expansion of New Mexico government, this report only buttresses the Rio Grande Foundation’s work showing that New Mexico government is much larger than in most states.
