The forum will include:
- A presentation by a representative of the Bernalillo County Clerk’s Office on how the District’s first-ever mail-in election will work.
- Pros and cons of the ballot initiatives presented by both supporters and opponents with Gessing and former NM Senator Mark Boitano.
- Questions and answers from the League of Women Voters of Central New Mexico as well as audience members.
- Closing arguments from both sides.
WHEN: 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8.
WHERE: KANW radio station, 2020 Coal Ave. SE. Open to the public; seating is limited.
WHY: In the coming days, registered voters in the Albuquerque Public Schools district will receive a ballot seeking an increase in local property taxes
A yes vote on all three ballot measures would mean a property tax increase of about 19 percent on the current APS tax levy.
Ballots must be returned to the County Clerk’s Office by Feb. 5.
