It’s official. After months of dotting our i’s and crossing our t’s on documentation relating to the Foundation’s efforts on Santa Fe’s soda tax, the Rio Grande Foundation has officially filed suit against the City for its hyper-restrictive campaign finance laws.
The Rio Grande Foundation is being represented in its lawsuit against Santa Fe by our friends at the free market Goldwater Institute (our sister free market think tank in Arizona).
KOB TV covered our press conference (view that below) as did the Albuquerque Journal. We look forward to more news outlets around New Mexico and nationwide covering this important issue and, more importantly, winning the case and restoring First Amendment freedoms for New Mexicans and residents of other states.
Very wisely, the lawsuit was filed in FEDERAL court where it will probably end up in the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver. The 10th Circuit will give the RGF a fair hearing. The same cannot be said of the NM Supreme Court, which last had a Republican majority in the 1920’s.

Excellent move
Perhaps the plug can get pulled on recent attempts to curtail giving at the state level
Thank you for recognizing, exposing and opposing Liberal government power grabs.
