Commissioner Dave Heil really says it all in this piece which ran in the Albuquerque Journal. The insight on Colorado’s labor laws is particularly interesting. Also a lot of great economic data showing the growth of “right to work” states.
It’s worth noting that according to the free market Commonwealth Foundation’s analysis of public sector bargaining laws, Colorado scores a respectable “C” while “right to work” Utah and Oklahoma also score “C.” New Mexico is unique among neighboring states in scoring a “D.” This is not directly analogous to “right to work,” but it does illustrate that Colorado’s unions do not hold the same sway in Denver as they do in Santa Fe.
