ABQ’s electric buses have been out of service since December (and we warned them this would happen)

The City of Albuquerque started purchasing electric city buses back in June 2022 as part of its push for cleaner transportation, with plans to eventually transition to zero-emission vehicles by 2040. We wrote in December of 2023 that the manufacturer, a company called Proterra, had filed for bankruptcy and that several other cities with Proterra buses were having problems finding replacement parts and doing basic maintenance.

Well, according to the website NMNews.com the very same issue has now hit Albuquerque’s 5 bus electrical fleet. Those electric buses haven’t been used since December. No estimates are provided in the article as to when or if the electric buses will return to service.
