NM has 3rd-highest sales tax burden per-capita

1) We don’t have a “sales tax,” we have a gross receipts tax, but the info is still accurate.

2) New Mexico is undergoing an unprecedented oil and gas boom, yet this tax remains.

3) Sales taxes (and the GRT) are regressive meaning they impact the poor most. This, despite (or because) New Mexico has a “progressive” Legislature.

  1. The Democrat controlled state legislature has known of the problems caused by our gross receipts’ tax at least since the 1990s. They haven’t changed it because they don’t want to. That simple. There will be no fundamental change in NM until there is fundamental political change – and the voters have shown no interest in fundamental political change.
